(HOWARD, SD) – The Horizon Health Foundation launched a yearlong Leave a Healing Legacy campaign in January to encourage supporters of Horizon Health Care to think about leaving a lasting impact on community health care.
While 64% of Americans surveyed for Caring.Com’s 2023 Wills and Estate Planning Study indicated estate planning is important, only 34% have a plan in place. Financial experts advise beginning to plan your estate in your 30s and no later than your 40s, but most people over the age of 55 haven’t written a will.
One way to begin planning how your estate will be allocated is to think of the things that matter to you now and leave a bequest to that organization or cause.
The Horizon Health Foundation supports programs that remove barriers to care such as transportation, food insecurity, and medical and dental needs to help patients of Horizon Health Care. Horizon served 28,130 patients across its 22-community footprint in 2022. Providers at Horizon’s eight dental clinics helped 9,198 patients. Of those patients, 10,959 were uninsured.
“By supporting healthcare, you keep rural healthcare alive and thriving in your South Dakota community, while providing immediate or deferred tax benefits for you and your family,” said Tracy Pardy, Horizon Health Foundation Executive Director. “Giving to our cause can be done either directly or through a gift model such as a Bequest in your Will, IRA roll-over, Charitable Gift Annuity, and others that can provide tax benefits and even income. Horizon’s mission is to serve patients in underserved locations and populations. We see everyone regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay.”
By leaving a gift in your will to the Horizon Health Foundation, you are safeguarding a legacy of quality and affordable care for your friends and neighbors. You are helping people get transportation to a wellness exam, take care of long-standing dental issues, guaranteeing a solid start for pediatric dental health with free check-ups, and supporting telehealth resources Horizon provides across the state for medical, dental and behavioral health needs.
Leaving a Healing Legacy lasts today, tomorrow and for generations to come. If you are interested in designating a gift to the Horizon Health Foundation, we would like to include you in the 1978 Founders Society. The Society was named in honor of the year Horizon Health Care was founded. For more information on how to become a member go to www.horizonhealthfoundationleg...
