Horizon Health Care Employee Giving Campaign raises over $41,000

(HOWARD, SD) – In October 2017, the Horizon Health Foundation kicked off their second Employee Giving Campaign, “Planting the Seed for Healthcare.” Through this campaign, Horizon Health Care employees across the state were challenged to raise $40,000 in 40 days with over 40% of staff participating. For the second year in a row, employees exceeded the campaign goals and raised over $41,000, with 43% participation within the 40 day period.  Last year the employee campaign raised $31,000, with 35% participation within 40 days.  

All donations raised through the employee campaign, will be designated to the Horizon Health Foundation’s funds of behavioral health, cancer care, charity care, diabetes, employee emergency, service area clinics, and the Horizon Impact – our greatest needs fund. Donations raised will be used to benefit Horizon’s patients and local clinics in these fund areas. One example of how funds were used from the first campaign was the recent purchase of over 100 gas cards for patients at every Horizon clinic. When patients are unable to get to follow-up appointments because they can’t afford the gas to travel back to the clinic, providers and clinic staff are able to give them one of these gas cards to ensure they continue to have access to their health care.

“Our employees are amazing, over 40% of our staff gave from their own pocket because they want to make a difference,” said Tracy Pardy, Horizon Health Foundation Director. They see first-hand the support needed for our patients and their families in our rural communities and the commitment made by their donation proves how much they care - to them, it’s not just a job - it’s their mission.

The Horizon Health Foundation was established in 2016 to ensure rural health care access to those in need and provide funding for Horizon Health Care, Inc. Horizon Health Foundation, a tax-exempt, non-profit corporation, seeks through responsible activities to encourage and derive sustaining gift support from current and former patients and interested friends, including corporate entities. The Horizon Health Foundation Office, operating in coordination with Horizon Health Care, Inc., is the duly designated fund-raising arm for Horizon Health Care, Inc.  In the broadest sense, the purpose of the Foundation is to create an awareness of the financial needs of Horizon Health which are not provided by patient charges and to systematically implement plans by which dollar needs can be met.
