(HOWARD, SD) – Horizon Health Foundation has received two grants this past week totaling $17,400 towards coronavirus relief efforts. To date, the foundation has raised over $44,000 to aid healthcare workers in their fight against Coronavirus.

The funds raised break down is as follows:

  • $10,000 is a gift from the South Dakota Fund of the South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) for personal protective equipment (PPE) and Horizon’s Employee Emergency Fund
  • $3,700 is from the Alcester Community Foundation with a matching gift of $3,700 from the South Dakota Community Foundation to aid Horizon’s Alcester medical and dental clinics

"In Alcester we are in need of additional PPE and equipment to help with the reuse and reduction of throw-away PPE and to prepare for the anticipated surge of patients. The $7,400 will be used to purchase essential PPE like reusable gowns, gloves and masks as well as the purchase and installation of a washer and dryer to allow for the use of reusable personal protective equipment like gowns and lab coats”, said Mary Honomichl, Southeast Regional Office Manager for Horizon Health Care.

“The COVID-19 virus and the ramifications resulting from it are not going away soon. As a statewide community foundation, we work to serve and strengthen communities across South Dakota every day,” said Stephanie Judson, SDCF President & CEO. “We are committed to continue working with communities and nonprofits as they deal with the myriad of issues posed by this virus. None of this would be possible without the support of our generous donors and we send a huge thank you to them.”

“The members of the Alcester Community Foundation recognize the contributions to the health of our community that both the Alcester Medical Clinic and the Alcester Dental Clinic provide. We know they are very essential to the well-being of our community,” said Christi Wegh, Alcester Community Foundation board member.

Horizon Health Foundation Executive Director Tracy Pardy adds, “On behalf of the patients and communities we serve, thank you to the South Dakota Community Foundation and the Alcester Community Foundation. Your partnership enables us to continue critical care for our patients in South Dakota’s most rural and frontier communities. Your gift inspires our employees and lets them know they are not alone in the fight against Coronavirus.”
