Horizon Health Foundation receives donation from Alliance Communications

Posted on

(HOWARD, SD) – Horizon Health Foundation has received a $5,700 donation from Alliance Communications to support Prairie Winds Dental in Howard. The grant is part of the “Keep the Change” program funded by Alliance.

The donation will fund a dental sensor for preschool-aged dental patients. The new equipment will allow Prairie Winds staff to take dental radiographs (X-Rays) for children four to five years of age. The current sensor is not always appropriate for use with smaller children. In 2022 the clinic saw 52 four- to five-year-old patients. So far in 2023 the clinic staff has given dental care to 50 children in that age group.

Prairie Winds Dental sees patients from the communities of Howard and greater Miner County, Sioux Falls, Madison, Mitchell, and Huron. It is estimated that 70 children will be served yearly with the new sensor machine.

“Having this new equipment will make it easier for us to get accurate X-Rays for children under school age,” said Michelle Scholtz, DDS, Horizon’s Chief Dental Officer and provider at Prairie Winds Dental. “This will make it more comfortable for them to receive these diagnostic images and make sure we are giving them the highest quality care. We are grateful for this gift and the impact it will make on our patients.”

With the gift from Alliance Communications, Horizon Health Care’s Prairie Winds Dental can continue to provide quality care to all its patients, regardless of ability to pay.

The Horizon Health Foundation was established in 2016 to ensure rural health care access to those in need and provide funding for Horizon Health Care. Horizon Health Foundation, a tax-exempt, non-profit corporation, seeks through responsible activities to encourage and derive sustaining gift support from current and former patients and interested friends, including corporate entities. The Horizon Health Foundation, operating in coordination with Horizon Health Care, is the duly designated fundraising arm for Horizon Health Care.  In the broadest sense, the purpose of the Foundation is to create an awareness of the financial needs of Horizon Health Care, which are not provided by patient charges and to systematically implement plans by which dollar needs can be met.
