Association of Fundraising Professionals South Dakota Chapter to recognize individuals, organizations with philanthropy awards

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — The South Dakota Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP SD) will honor five individuals, one company, one organization and one community with philanthropy awards on Tuesday, Sept 27 as part of the organization’s 2022 National Philanthropy Day conference in Pierre. 

  • Scott and Julia Jones of Pierre are being recognized as AFP SD’s 2022 Outstanding Philanthropists. Scott and Julia have provided financial commitments to 44 nonprofit organizations, led several campaign efforts and served on countless boards. Scott Jones is CEO of Delta Dental, which was recognized by AFP in 2016 as South Dakota’s Outstanding Philanthropic Corporation.
  • The city of Alcester, nestled in the rolling hills of Union County, South Dakota, is being honored as the 2022 Outstanding Philanthropic Community. AFP SD is recognizing the city for its innumerable acts of significant and widespread philanthropic support through its all-volunteer fire department and EMS service, its community center, its community foundation and other philanthropic efforts.
  • Journey Group Construction is being recognized as AFP SD’s 2022 Outstanding Philanthropic Corporation. The Sioux Falls-based firm has provided more than 200 gifts over 32 years of giving, supporting health care, education and community causes while benefitting thousands of lives.
  • The Student United Way Huron Youth Leadership Council is being recognized with AFP SD’s 2022 Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy award. The widely respected and well-known youth council offers opportunities to build strong leadership and engage the next generation of civic-minded community members.
  • AFP SD is honoring Rod Fouberg and the late Glenna Fouberg of Aberdeen with its 2022 Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser award. Rod, the longtime CEO and Chair of Dacotah Bank, and Glenna, an educator for 38 years, are known for donating their time and resources to numerous community projects across their city and state.
  • Stephanie Judson, President and CEO of the South Dakota Community Foundation in Pierre, is being honored as AFP SD’s 2022 Outstanding Fundraising Professional. Since 2013, Stephanie has led the growth of the foundation’s staff from 5 to 17 and grown assets to more than $800 million, all while maintaining the organization’s original vision and culture.

AFP SD’s National Philanthropy Day, which is being held Sept. 27 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Ramkota in Pierre, features a keynote address from Dana Dykhouse, CEO of First PREMIER Bank. Members and non-members can register at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/384766295347 through Sept. 19.

AFP SD will also present awards to its 2021 winners, who were initially honored during a virtual conference last November: the late Ray Hillenbrand of Rapid City, Robin Prunty of Avera Health in Sioux Falls, KBACK Radio of Sioux Falls, Coca-Cola Bottling Co. High Country of Rapid City and the City of Faulkton.
