Ardie Freeman, a long-time resident of Huron, is a mother of two wonderful twins—her son serves in the Marines, and her daughter lives nearby. "I just love it here," she says, reflecting on her life in Huron.
Though she was diagnosed with gestational diabetes that never went away, Ardie didn’t let it define her. After gaining weight over time, she took control: "One day I just got sick of it and started eating right and exercising. I lost almost 100 pounds."
Her experience with diabetes was difficult, but Horizon Health has been by her side. "I love the people here at Horizon. It’s a good impact. Everybody is always friendly. The ladies at the front desk, my doctor, Samara—they've all been wonderful."
Ardie’s healthcare journey has been supported not only by medical expertise but also by compassionate care. "Dr. Leonard is a great doctor; he’s got a sense of humor. Samara has helped me regulate my blood sugar. She comes to my house two or three times a week, and she just explains everything so well. She’s always smiling and in a good mood. I really appreciate her."
Beyond regular medical appointments, Horizon’s Patient Pantry has also been a vital resource for Ardie. "If I need something, they give it to me if they have it. It’s just a great place."
With Medicaid support and the help of Horizon Health, Ardie feels confident in her healthcare choices. "I can go other places now, but I’d hate to see Horizon disappear. I wouldn’t want to lose such an amazing team."
Ardie’s story is a powerful reminder of the difference accessible, compassionate care can make in the lives of those who need it most.
